A revision of Eupatorium (Compositae: Eupatorieae) from Michoacan Phyton
Garcia Sanchez,E; Ramirez Lopez,CB; del Rio Torres,REN; Martinez Pacheco,MM.
An important study in species of the genus Eupatorium, that inhabits other parts of the world, was conducted in the search for new molecules with pharmacological activities, thus showing that it is a potential source of novel secondary metabolites. We reviewed the number of Eupatorium species that have been described in the State of Michoacan, and that can be available for harvesting, to make a phytochemical screening. It was found that 69 Eupatorium spp are growing in 69% of the Michoacan territory. Within this group there are ten species used in Mexican traditional medicine. It was evident the difficulty in taxonomic classifying these species since several Eupatorium spp have synonyms. It appeared that the number of native members should be reduced in...

Chemical composition of essential oils of peltate glandular trichomes from leaves and flowers of Lepechinia floribunda (Lamiaceae) Boletín de la Sociedad
CAMINA,JULIA L.; DAMBOLENA,JOSÉ S.; ZYGADLO,JULIO A.; ASHWORTH,LORENA.
The knowledge of the chemical composition of different plant organs provides valuable Information for clarifying the functionality of secondary metabolites. Essential oils are secondary metabolites produced and stored in secretory structures on leaves, flowers, and steam. Many studies have shown that the chemical composition of the essential oil can differ depending on the plant organ and the secretory structures even if they are at the same organ. Such differences may be the consequence that organs also differ in type and density of glandular structure. Moreover, the same type of glandular structure can change its chemical composition depending on its position within the same organ. However, no study has been evaluating the chemical composition of the...

Essential oil composition of fruit colour varieties of Eugenia brasiliensis Lam. Scientia Agricola
Moreno,Paulo Roberto H.; Lima,Marcos Enoque Leite; Sobral,Marcos; Young,Maria Cláudia Marx; Cordeiro,Inês; Apel,Miriam Anders; Limberger,Renata Pereira; Henriques,Amélia Teresinha.
Eugenia brasiliensis Lam. is a variable species concerning fruit colour, with three recognized varieties. However, the definition of varieties is not easy for Myrtaceae species and not widely accepted. Two fruit colour varieties (purple and yellow) of E. brasiliensis had their essential oil composition analysed in order to give support to the existence of varieties for this species. Although, the major components in the leaf oil are the same monoterpenes for both varieties, alpha-pinene, beta-pinene and 1,8-cineol, the purple fruit variety accumulates more oxygenated sesquiterpenes (33.9%) than the one with yellow fruits (3.8%). The major differences occurred in purple fruits that present as major components caryophyllene oxide (22.2%) and alpha-cadinol...
